Although the west Austin weather is ideal for walking and biking most of the year — thanks to the more than 300 sunny days a year and mild weather — most trips will require a vehicle to get to your destination.

Northwest Hills is also just a short distance from the shopping mall The Arboretum, where locals are especially pleased with Juliet Italian Kitchen, Plank Seafood Provisions, and Amy's Ice Cream.

There are several breweries in the northwest area of Austin for those looking for a nice craft beer. Austin Beerworks is a local favorite for its delectable selections and great tastings & tours. Chez Zee is known for the best brunch meals and desserts in Austin when the weekend rolls around.

 

There are plenty of things to do in the area, from trails and water activities to watching live sports and concerts. For sports, locals go to Q2 Stadium to watch Austin FC and the Bass Concert Hall for renowned drama, music, and dance performances.

However, if you want to be out in nature, four parks will create an incredible experience for you: Mt Bonnell, Bull Creek, Bright Leaf Preserve, and Stillhouse Hollow Nature Preserve. Mt Bonnell has some of the best sunsets you'll ever see, combined with sweeping views of Lake Austin. Bull Creek is a park along the river with various trails. For those just getting started with hiking, there are scheduled guided hikes at Bright Leaf Preserve, with some great hilltop views. Stillhouse Hollow Nature Preserve is also highly reviewed, although it only has one hiking trail.
