Southwest

Welcome to Southwest Austin

A quiet, master-planned community with regular community events

Being a Texas community, the weather in Southwest Austin is, more often than not, mild and warm. This means locals can get out more, explore the incredible paths and trails lining major parks along Greenbelt, or swim with friends in the community pools.

The architecture in residential and commercial areas is much like other styles and designs you see in Texas: Spanish Mission, Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, Hacienda, Italian Renaissance, Tudor, and classic ranch style homes. The streets are lined with gorgeous trees, and the landscapes are very well taken care of. The area is also popular for master-planned communities, which come with an array of luxurious benefits like exclusive activities and entertainment, active management, and a close-knit community.

What to Love

Local Lifestyle

As you move into Southwest Austin, many benefits arise for locals looking for a quiet and peaceful place to hang their hats. Not only is there more to experience out in nature, but it's a short distance to any hustle or bustle of major cities when the right occasion calls for it. Southwest Austin, Texas, is full of great parks and residential neighborhoods lined with big trees and well-maintained lawns. At the same time, you can travel to nearby downtown cities for some extra fun and excitement.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

When the occasion calls for something truly unique, like a mesquite-smoked BBQ with a Tex-Mex twist, the place to be in Southwest Austin is Valentina's Tex-Mex BBQ. It's highly rated and has great outdoor seating. Another must-visit BBQ place in the area is The Salt Lick Barbecue in Driftwood, where the decor and environment are very rustic, and the food comes in some of the best-tasting sauces and dry rubs.

When looking for something a little more trendy and stylish, the District Kitchen + Cocktails is one of the most popular, offering customers New American cuisines. Or, when you're ready to kick back in a fun environment and watch a game with a beer, Armadillo Den's has a unique outdoor space and live music.

Things to Do

In an area with master-planned communities comes an area full of life and fun activities. There are neighborhood parks, pools, and community events that vary by the master-planned community residents live in. There are lots of trails along the Barton Creek Greenbelt that offer families a wide selection of adventures, with a disc golf course and opportunities for swimming, hiking, and biking.

Another park to visit is Veloway. It's particularly great for locals who like to bike and skateboard because it has exclusive paths for you to follow. If you love botanical gardens like most Texas residents, you won't want to miss the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Named after the former first lady, the center is popular for viewing and preserving Texas-native plants.

Schools

Southwest has the best trifecta of Austin Independent School District. Several great elementary schools feed to Gorzycki Middle and Bowie High School:
