Westlake, found in the hill country across the Colorado River from Austin, is chiefly known for its beautiful homes and the upscale lifestyle of its residents. Primarily residential, Westlake is more spaced-out than most neighborhoods closer to Downtown Austin, with many properties situated on large plots.

Thanks to its surplus of gorgeously designed homes, the real estate market in Westlake is as robust as any in Greater Austin. The architecture of Westlake’s luxury homes comprises historic mansions and modern residences with lakeside views and hillside vantages. Compared to urban Austin, Westlake possesses a quieter atmosphere, and its well-regarded schools make it a popular destination for families.

The local lifestyle in Westlake is very laid-back and private in the residential areas, with plenty of retail, eateries, and coffee shops to meet with friends and family. Many locals gather at Lake Austin for fun on the water, as well as the schools, especially as the football season takes off and students begin competing in the area.

As you might expect, Westlake provides its residents with several upscale restaurants. At Jack Allen’s Kitchen, you’ll open your menu to find an expansive selection of elevated Southwestern cuisine, including fried chicken, steak, and grilled vegetables.

Shopping venues in and around Westlake offer combinations of national chains, luxury brands, and local shops. The Westlake retail scene revolves around two high-end outdoor centers: Village at Westlake and West Woods Shopping Center. In addition to these modern malls, Westlake has boutiques and specialty stores such as Grove Hill ATX Boutique, Valentines, PerriBerri for children’s products, and Hutson Clothing Co for men.

Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is a great place to walk a few great trails in Westlake, but it is also a natural park committed to protecting Westlake's animals and environment. When you've seen all the preservation has to offer, which you'll likely want to see several times, Barton Creek Greenbelt is another great park to visit. It has several opportunities for outdoor fun and adventures like rock climbing, hiking, biking, and swimming.

Another fun thing to do in Westlake is to rent a boat, grab a paddleboard or kayak, and enjoy Lake Austin. The vast lake not only offers a scenic view of the water surrounded by large trees but also plays host to many exciting water sports and activities.

 

The schools in Westlake are very highly acclaimed. Students in this region attend the Eanes Independent School District or one of several private schools in the area. Students may attend:
